Faithful With What God Has Given
How Daily Obedience Prepares Us to Carry Greater Influence

We often want the fruit of maturity without the time it takes to grow. In alcohol and drug addiction, we learned to reach for immediate relief. That same impatience can follow us into recovery. We hear a teaching, understand a spiritual truth, and assume we are ready to lead others into it. But understanding obedience is not the same as practicing it. Insight gives us something to respond to; obedience begins putting it into practice. God is forming people who can faithfully carry what they have received.
Tell the truth when a lie would protect your image. Receive correction without building a defense. Keep your commitment when your feelings change. During quiet time with God, the question is not only, “Lord, what will You show me?” It is also, “Lord, what have You already shown me that I need to obey?” Scripture says, “But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves” (James 1:22). We deceive ourselves when we mistake familiarity with truth for a life surrendered to it.
Obedience is the response we make today. Faithfulness develops as we continue making that response tomorrow, next week, and when nobody notices. As we practice truth, God exposes deeper motives, strengthens our endurance, and teaches us dependence. The lesson may remain the same while its roots reach deeper into our hearts. We learn honesty in our words, then honesty about our intentions. We learn to stop demanding our way, then to surrender the resentment beneath that demand. Maturity grows through these repeated encounters with God.
Early in recovery, your present responsibility may be getting through today honestly, accepting help, and learning to live without alcohol or drugs. Do not despise that assignment. Attending your group, honoring boundaries, completing your work, and making a truthful entry in your journal are acts of stewardship. You do not need a public platform to have a sacred responsibility. God has entrusted you with choices, relationships, and a day to live before Him. Care for what is already in your hands instead of reaching past it for something that makes you feel important.
Jesus said, “He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much” (Luke 16:10). Faithfulness prepares us to carry responsibility, but this is not a promise of fame, a title, or an ever-expanding audience. Sometimes greater maturity means loving the same few people with greater patience. Your family may begin to notice that your apologies now come with changed behavior. A newcomer may notice that you receive correction without quitting. Influence grows as others encounter something trustworthy in your life. Let Christ determine its reach.
Outward compliance cannot replace inward surrender. We can follow the rules while secretly feeding pride, bitterness, or the desire to be admired. “For God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). Spiritual gifts and visible results are not proof that every motive is right. We cannot manufacture the Spirit’s work by performing obedience. Nor do we earn His presence by becoming flawless. We depend on His grace and yield our hearts to His correction.
Use your Daily Moral Inventory, your DMI, to ask: Where did I obey willingly? Where did I perform for approval? What am I resisting? Bring those answers to God without excuses or self-hatred. Memorizing Scripture helps keep His truth close when impatience demands a shortcut. Return to Jesus’ words, “Apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). The goal is not independence from God as we grow; it is deeper dependence. Throughout life, He will uncover another layer that needs surrender. Be faithful with today’s invitation. Let Him shape your character, establish your timing, and entrust you with the influence you are prepared to carry.

Fieles Con Lo Que Dios Nos Ha Dado
No menosprecies esa tarea.
¿A qué me estoy resistiendo?
