The Invasion of Light: Day 5
December 24, 2025
Somebody Was Your Star

Every Christmas, we come back to the story of the wise men—men who traveled farther than anyone else, who left everything familiar, and who followed a light they didn’t fully understand. Scripture says they “followed the star until it stopped over the place where the child was” (Matthew 2:9).
That one sentence tells us everything: they didn’t find Jesus on their own. They needed guidance. They needed direction. They needed a light to lead them to the Savior. And in His mercy, God provided that light.
What was true for them is true for every one of us—none of us came to Christ alone. Somewhere in your story, somebody was your star. Someone pointed you toward hope when you were in darkness. Someone prayed for you when you didn’t care about prayer. Someone spoke truth to you even when you didn’t want to hear it. Someone invited you to church, told you about Jesus, or showed you kindness at a time when you needed it the most. Maybe it was a parent, a grandparent, a friend, a pastor, a neighbor, someone who sat with you during a hard moment, or even someone whose name you barely remember. But God used them to guide you. You didn’t stumble into grace by accident. You didn’t find salvation because you were wise enough or strong enough or spiritual enough to see clearly on your own. You got here because God put a light in your life and you followed it.
And tonight, on Christmas Eve, that truth invites you to embrace another one just as important: now it’s your turn to become a star for someone else. The star didn’t draw attention to itself—it pointed people to Jesus. That is your calling now. You don’t need to be a preacher or a Bible scholar or someone with a perfect life. You don’t need to have all the answers or say all the right words. You just need to shine. You shine by loving people. You shine by walking humbly with God. You shine by being honest, steady, responsible, forgiving, and compassionate. You shine when you live a life that points back to the One who saved you.
Jesus said, “Let your light shine before others” (Matthew 5:16). Not so people notice you, but so they notice Him. The same God who guided you wants to guide others through you. He wants to take the broken pieces of your life and turn them into a beacon for someone else who is lost, hurting, confused, or wandering. Think about it—if God used someone to reach your heart, then He can use your life to reach theirs. If someone helped you take your first step toward Christ, then you can help someone else take theirs. The wise men found Jesus because a star led them. Hundreds of years later, God is still using stars—ordinary people filled with extraordinary grace—to guide others to the Savior.
So tonight, as we celebrate the birth of Jesus, remember this: you were guided, you were loved, you were led, and you were drawn toward the light by the hand of God. Now He invites you to share that light. Someone out there needs your testimony, your hope, your compassion, your endurance, your example, and your willingness to walk with God. Someone needs the light He has placed inside you. The Christmas story isn’t just about the light that came into the world—it’s about that light shining through us. Let the same Jesus who drew you now shine through you so someone else can find their way home.
Prayer: “Lord, thank You for the light that led us to Jesus and for the people You used along the way. Help us now to shine that same light for someone else. Guide our steps, steady our hearts, and let Your love be seen in us. In Jesus’ name, amen. ”
